Broken nose

This is probably the bloodiest look I've ever done... And I went out to dinner like this. GANGSTA.

Pastel Eyes

I never wear pastels, but since I make them, I should at least give them a try sometimes, right? I have always avoided pastels since I'm darker and I don't want to get washed out, so I was totally shocked at how well this turned out! I am excited to get more pastels all over my face. That's what she said.

I took this picture at the end of the day, so my hair is a little raggedy. But hey.. a messy updo only gets better with /more/ mess, right?

Couture Bruise

As much as I love professional photos, webcam/phone/instagram pictures will always have a spot in my heart.

Cherry Review: Fairmont Hotel

This first cocktail was in The Georgian, during dinner. The bartender was an older gentleman. The first drink he made me was a chocolate cake (vodka, lemon juice, & frangelica) which he had never heard of or made before, and it was completely spot on perfect. That man knows what he is doing. I wish that I remembered his name. The drink I'm reviewing is just a vodka soda though, he told me that they were low on cherries but still loaded me up! I was very pleased.

Cherry Rating: 6

After we got stranded, we went to The Terrace, which was gorgeous! I got a vodka soda again, and the bartender was a middle aged sweetheart with the largest fakers I had ever seen in real life and an enormous trout pout. Hey, whatever, girlfriend was rockin' it!

I used my typical line about the "legal limit of cherries" and she just batted her lashes and told me she didn't care. Then she handed me a separate glass of JUST cherries.

Cherry Rating: 14!!

I guess there are worse places to be stranded than a luxury hotel

Last night my friend and I went out to a company dinner at the Fairmont Hotel. And it was great! They made me a vegan dish and brought me sorbet for dessert. However, when we tried to leave there were absolutely no cabs running due to the snow, and the few cabs that were running refused to go to capitol hill! So we just ended up booking a room.
Our room was so cute!

Guggenheim Exhibition-- Maurizio Cattelan: All

I know this post is pretty late since Ive returned from NY almost a week ago, but I wanted to do this exhibit justice. I went to SO many museums and exhibits while I was in NY but Maurizio Cattelan's retrospective exhibit "All" at the Guggenheim was hands down my favourite, and, dare I say it, perhaps one of my favourite exhibits I have ever been to in my entire life. Although I've seen (and loved!) his more iconic pieces such as the taxidermy work, sculpture of  Pope John Paul II hit by a meteorite, Hitler dressed as a school boy and in a praying position, JFK in his coffin, and the shoot he did with Linda Evalgelista for W in 2009 I've never really followed him much.

Well, what a better way to catch up than to view EVERYTHING all at once in the massive rotunda at the Gugg?? "All" displayed 128 pieces of his work, pretty much everything he's done since 1996. There was just SO much to see, I think I spent several hours just exploring the exhibit from every level! I think I definitely appreciated seeing his work in this way more than I would have with a typical gallery set up where the pieces are showcased separately. Lots of pictures below, but I'm not going to bother putting it under a cut because its all amazing.

Not only am I now a total fan of his work, I am totally in love with his prankster antics! For example, for his exhibition at the de Appel arts center in Amsterdam, he stole the entire contents (the art exhibit, filing cabinets, furniture, etc) of Galerie Bloom, a nearby gallery and titled the work "Another Fucking Readymade" (1996). BAD. ASS.

More NYE pictures

Just got some more pics from NYE. Apparently this is me being really upset at being covered in powdered sugar. What? It's a custom sequin dress! I like avoiding the dry cleaner when possible!

I got back from NY just in time for SNOWPOCALYPSE! What gives? I just went from freezing in NY to freezing here! I just HAD to go shoot outside really fast in a weather inappropriate outfit. I'm not usually a fan of this wig but it's great for vintage-inspired or pin-up style looks.

Cherry Review: Monster

Last night I went to Monster with my friend/DJ Colby B. and Pop Metalinguist Kendalle Fiasco. It was okay except that it had a very high ratio of creepy, obnoxious, invasive older gay gentlemen who were downright offensive and rude towards us! Although I still had fun dancing and hanging out and stumbling back at 5am, I doubt that I would ever go there again.

Cherry Rating: 5

Well, I guess this is the end of my adventures in this lovely city! I'm heading back to beautiful, sunny Seattle in a couple hours. I can't wait to take a big nap on the plane!

Opportunistic Camwhoring: MOMA

I'm totally into this opportunistic camwhoring thing. People give me the funniest looks though!

And an actual outfit shot from later last night.

Diego Rivera

Indian Warrior
I /FINALLY/ went to the MOMA today. The Diego Rivera exhibit was amazing-- I didn't know anything about him and even though his artistic style may not be the kind that I am normally into, I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as an artist. The exhibit showcased 5 of the 8 original mobile murals that the Museum of Modern Art commissioned from him in 1931, and it was only the second solo show they had hosted. They flew him to NY 6 weeks before the show's opening, and he worked around the clock to produce five murals using traditional Mexican fresco technique, which consists of painting directly on the wet mortar with natural pigments. I think his entire palette consisted of something like only 8 colours! After the show opened he produced another 3 pieces... It just boggles my mind to produce so many works of art in so little time... Friggin downright gangsta.

Cherry Review: Union Pool

The other night I went out to Union Pool in Williamsburg, a chill but loud bar that reminds me a lot of Linda's back home. Patio area, cheap drinks, photobooth. I giggled a bit too long at the bathroom sign:

This kind of place isn't usually the type that I hang out at, but my drink was decent and had enough cherries for my liking.

Nitrogen Tanks

Last night I ran into all these Nitrogen tanks on the street! I  was so confused-- and they're bigger than I am! Apparently they're from Verizon, who keep their underground cables pressurized to keep out moisture. I was hoping it had a more exciting explanation... Like belonging to a very eccentric yet easily amused professor who had a penchant for freezing things randomly and a (very poorly hidden) secret underground ice cream speakeasy for the hordes of rodents and mutant ninja turtles in the sewers.

Well, not everyone can live the dream.

Kayvon's Birthday

Sunday night I also went to Kayvon Zand's birthday party at Greenhouse with my friends Kindra and Laura, who always dress up super insane! I'm so in love with everything they do. Anyway, I've been semi-stalking admiring Kayon on facebook for probably a couple years now, and it was great to finally meet him in person!

I'm not sure why I am so averse to taking pictures of my makeup with my regular camera. It seems that I always end up shooting on my phone!

See? I told you that they always look amazing

And of course, Amanda Lepore was there too! She is the biggest tranny icon and total personal role model for me-- I hope one day to look half as amazing as she does and she is even MORE perfect in person! She was also the biggest sweetheart and her dress was absolutely GORGEOUS.

Pantsless! Yeah yeah, what else is new?

Yesterday was crazy! I was on the subway and I had no idea that it was Improv Everywhere's annual pantsless subway ride. Well, as soon as I realized that I immediately took off my leggings (I never wear pants). I could've been wearing better knickers, but oh well. I randomly met some pretty sweet people who invited me back to their pad for some drinks. Of course I said yes! My best friend called me during this, and I shouted into the phone, "I KNOW IT'S 3PM BUT I'M AT SOME STRANGERS HOUSE DOING SHOTS AND I'M NOT WEARING ANY PANTS!!" He wasn't surprised.

On a completely unrelated note, this is what I woke up to this morning:

Opportunistic Camwhoring

I was trying to take a picture of a Russian space capsule at the Intrepid, but it was too reflective. So, I decided to take a classic camwhore-style picture instead.

I am totally going to start doing this in reflective surfaces that are not mirrors because I think its hilarious.

Ice Cream Sundae!

I just had my first ice cream sundae ever with Stella at Lula's Sweet Apothecary last night! I know you can't see it in the picture, but there is a BROWNIE under all that. I pretty much squealed with delight the entire time... I think sundaes are formulated perfectly for pure, unadulterated joy. NO WONDER AMERICANS ARE SO FAT!

On a side note, if this was a Cherry Review post, Lula's would not do very well.

It's FREEZING here!

I cannot believe how bone-chillingly cold it is today!

On a related note, I did the same thing with my Blue Bottle coffee. I didn't realize this, but apparently living in Seattle/the Pacific NW has turned me into a bit of a coffee snob. Today I threw out my 5th and LAST cappuccino latte that I am going to have in this city.

1: No one here can foam soy correctly
2: No one knows the difference between a cappuccino and a latte. The barista today seemed extremely offended when I asked her to top off the "cappuccino" I ordered with more foam.
3: The beans here taste like they were roasted incinerated by a vomiting dragon.

I hear there's a stumptown in the Ace hotel here, I may have to drop in if I want a drinkable cup of coffee.
