Girl Crush: Lana Del Rey

I am obsessed with Lana Del Rey lately. I had no idea that "Sad-Core" was a genre, but it's exactly the kind of music I'm into (Case in point, my favourite band: Portland's A Weather). Who cares if she's changed her look, name, and has lip injections and a ballin' father? I feel like people get really unnerved and even hurt when they discover that someone's come from a background of privilege, but honestly, it would be stupid for privileged people to NOT take advantage of it.

Anyway, back to why I really love her. One- she's gorgeous. I love plastic surgery and huge lips so of course I love her enormous lips (although they look kind of lopsided in the Born to Die video, I'm amazed the makeup artist didn't even them out more). I love her 60's bombshell aesthetic. She's extremely sultry and sexy, yet could not look farther from the typical over-sexualized Maxim or Penthouse model. It's refreshing to see a girl who is completely dripping in sensuality in such a different manner. Her vocals are seductive, but in a sleepy, sad way. It reminds me of my tumultuous teenage years.

I'm in love.

Vegfest

This weekend a couple of my friends and I went to Vegfest, a huge vegetarian fest with food vendors from all over the country. I go to every year and eat so much fake chicken and ice cream until I feel like I'm going to vom vom! I don't think I've ever realized how repetitive all the food was until this year-- I feel like vegans want more than just make meat and cheese! However, I discovered Biscoff Spread, which tastes like those ginger-grahamy cookies that airplanes give you. SO GOOD. I should have bought a jar!

Pretending to be a photographer

Last night we went to a beach themed party and I snapped a couple pics of my friend Kay LaRose on the way out. She is way too gorgeous! When we got there we were the only people in bathing suits though-- LAME! I can't wait to move somewhere where people actually dress up.

Anyway, these turned out pretty well given that the only light source in the room was a clippy light balanced on the top of my head. My goal this year is to become decent at photography. Stay tuned for more super amateur pictures of pretty ladies!

Alien Tribal Sex Goddess

Did a shoot the other day with Luminous Being and Kay LaRose, wearing all Swagger Cosmetics. She looks so amazing. I don't think I have ever been so jealous of someone's face and body!

Trannylicious Rave Look

Friday I went to a rave, which is usually not my scene but Calvin Harris was headlining! I had so much fun! I didn't get home until close to 6am, which totally made me not want to go out and see Taylor Momsen the next night. Oh well, next time! It was weird being at a place where I was wearing MORE clothes than most of the other people. I'm wearing my mint green "Stella" lipgloss, even though it looks slightly more blue in the photo.

Girl Crush: Taylor Momsen

Taylor Momsen looks so friggin hot in this month's FHM. She is such a trashy icon--I love her so much! Tall, blonde, smokey eyes, killer bod, not to mention her complete dedication to NEVER WEARING PANTS (like me!). Whats not to love? She's playing a show here tomorrow-- Thinking about going but I'm not really sure if it's worth it. I guess we'll see.

Current Obsession: Coconut Oil

I am SO in love with coconut oil!

I mean, not only does it smell amazing and have an amazing texture, it's honestly done wonders for my skin and hair.

I've been on retin-a for breakouts for the last year or so, using it about 5-6x a week. It was keeping my skin pretty clear, but anyone who has used retin-a knows the side effects that, while usually relatively minor, can be very annoying (dry, flaky rough patches of skin, peeling, sun sensitivity, stinging, etc). About two months ago I decided to try using coconut oil on my face and although I was a little apprehensive to not use retin-a, to my great surprise it has continued to keep my skin clear-- and in fact, I feel that my skin is actually much better now than it was before. I feel that it's smoother, more moisturized, and I have fewer blackheads-- even though I'm pretty sure I was the only person who could see them.

I've also been putting it on my hair overnight and washing it off in the morning, especially before I dye it. My hair's been through a lot in the last 2 years-- I went from crayola red to white blonde and then finally to brunette  because I had to stop fighting biology since it was screwing up my hair way too much. Anyway, the combo of not completely annihilating my hair with chemicals each month as well as coconut oil treatments has made my hair feel better than it has in years.

Blossom Vegetarian

After reading Vegan Score's review on the new (almost completely) vegan Vietnamese resturant Blossom Vegetarian in Renton, I absolutely HAD to go check it out for myself. (photos shamelessly stolen from here blog-- was wayyy too excited to eat to take my own!)

And oh my god, this girl was not exaggerating! I believe that I've found my new favoruite restaurant in the Seattle area.

The place was super cozy, the staff were very friendly, and the food was downright AMAZING.

We ordered the Spicy Green Mussels and the Pickled Vegetable Clay Pot. I'm obsessed with trying new food, and I will try anything that's vegan once. Anything. I was really excited to try the Mussels, but I had my reservations about the Pickled Vegetables-- I'm not a person who is into pickled foods, but I wanted to try something truly new. Like in Vegan Score's case, the server tried her best to talk us out of it as well, and we were warned repeatedly that it had a "strong smell" and that although it was a delicacy for them, that we probably wouldn't like it. It definitely had a very strong fermented fishy smell, but it was absolutely delicious-- like nothing I've ever had before. I expected it to be very tart/sour/vinegary, but it was nothing like that-- just rich and savoury. I strongly strongly recommend it.

I absolutely cannot wait to go back to this place. I can't wait to see what other treasures they have there! I KNOW IT'S IN RENTON AND I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE TO HITCHHIKE, YOU MUST GO!

Mass Effect 3 MAJOR SPOILERS

MAJOR SPOILERS MAJOR SPOILERS MAJOR SPOILERS

I just finished Mass Effect 3 yesterday. I tried to stay away from all forums/articles/discussions/blog posts/etc about the game because I wanted to avoid and and all spoilers. I believe in making decisions in these games on your own, and dealing with whatever the consequences may be, and if I start looking at what other people do I'll try to only do what is "best" given the game mechanics, not what I feel is the most appropriate option. That being said, I did gather that people were unhappy with the ending... I just figured that they didn't do enough side quests and didn't gather enough war assets, like in ME:2 if you didn't have all your upgrades/most of your team loyal /send the wrong person for the wrong job you could lose people.

Well, not only is it borderline impossible to get the "best" ending without unlocking the multi-player bonuses, all the possible endings are practically exactly the same. I specifically chose an ending because I didn't want the mass relays destroyed-- and guess what? They all get destroyed no matter what you do. So I don't even know why the Starchild at the end  tells you specifically how one of the choices leads to mass relay destruction, when they all do. ALSO, HOW IS EVERYONE IN THE GALAXY NOT DEAD FROM THAT? I mean, in Arrival destroying one relay took out the entire system it was in, wouldn't taking out all of them destroy all the systems? There were way too many things in the ending that didn't make sense. I was really hoping for a Fallout style ending, where there's a montage of outcomes based on all the specific decisions you made. Instead, there's pretty much one ending-- no matter if you were paragon, renegade, saved the Geth, destroyed the collector ship, etc. I think that's why most people were so upset, because there was no closure for any of the things that you had done.

The end fight was also disappointing-- I was really hoping that your war assets mattered, that you had to figure out where to deploy your troops. I at least wanted to see a cut scene with everyone fighting together-- Geth primes next to the Shadow broker wet squad, Asari commandos using their biotics alongside the last 5 Batarians in the galaxy-- okay, what I really meant by that was that I wanted to see some Elcor with turrets or whatever strapped on their backs. AMAZING.

Instead you have the same fight with cannibals, marauders, brutes and banshees that you've had the entire game. I kept trying to save my medi-gel for the "real fight" but it just never came. And when Harbinger shows up he doesn't even say anything-- And nothing could shut up his obnoxious filthy condescending reaper mouth last time.

That being said, the previous 25+ hours of this game before the ending was absolutely awesome! There were so many well done who's-cutting-the-onions moments: I almost cried near the end when my character closes her eyes and begins to die next to Anderson when Hackett calls in and she just responds with, "What do you need me to do?" What a true soldier. The game could have ended right there and it-- well, it wouldn't have been amazing, but it would have been better than what they did. I also completely lost it when Mordin states, as he's about to go up the elevator to cure the genophage, "Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong...Would have liked to run tests on the seashells," or when Legion asked Tali, "Does this unit have a soul?" right before he dies and she responds with yes. I also really enjoyed the geth quest where you view the beginning of the Quarian-Geth conflict from the geths' perspective... After that there was no way that I couldn't side with the geth (although luckily for me, my persuasion was high enough that I didn't have to pick sides) and it was really nice to have a non-combat quest for a change.

Ignoring the last 10 minutes or so, I feel like I just finished an amazing novel. I feel like the depth of this world and the characters in it are seriously on par with any of my favourite works of literature, and I've been thinking about it non-stop since I finished it. I would be very happy to replay any or all of these games in the future.

Mighty-O Donuts

Today I went to Mighty-O Donuts, a vegan doughnut shop in Wallingford. They mostly have cake doughnuts-- I mean, they have raised/yeast doughnuts too (including maple bars-- my favourite) but apparently they sell out at like 9am every day so I've never had one.

Stuffin my face, nom nom.

Cherry Review: The Mercury

The other night I went to The Mercury, a member's only goth/industrial club/bar between 10th and 11th on Union. I'm not a member so I have only been here a couple times (you need a member to sign you in). Apparently they have a dress code, but since I wear exclusively black I've never had an issue with it. It's not really my scene, but it's a cozy, smokey (yes, you can smoke inside there) dive bar with a dance floor.

Apparently, the "most cherries" that they can serve here is 2. Which, I should be thankful for because they were absolutely DISGUSTING. I mean, I can only extrapolate that for the second one because I wasn't about to eat it after tasting the first. It tasted old and dusty... apparently cherries are not common drink ingredients for goths. That, or the sheer amount of cigarette smoke in the place perpetuated through the "cherries." I put that in quotes, because whatever the abomination that was in my drink definitely do not qualify as cherries anymore.

Cherry rating: 0.

60's tranny

Tonight I'm going to a Mad Men themed party. I've never seen the show, but I'm always down for a themed party!

Happy Bieber Day!

Wow, I've gotten so many texts about Justin Biebers birthday that it may as well be MY birthday!

To celebrate today, I am blogging wearing a Justin Bieber shirt (not pictured) and perfume (also not pictured)  and my BIEBER FEVER eyeshadow (as brows) in my Justin Bieber room. SWAG! Going to go out with some friends later tonight too.
